Bluemont Fair 2025:

  • The T-shirt order was sent to the printer this week
  • We are dedicating the fair to Betty Colbert. Betty liked to cook, so we used AI to design a graphic with the copper kettle which will go on the T-shirt sleeve as a tribute to her.
  • For the first time, Civil War re-enactors will participate in the fair.
  • The art sale is returning to the EE Lake store and we will have art on the walls.
  • Sponsorships are going well. We just received one for $1000.
  • Something new will be a 50/50 raffle to raise funds towards restoring Snickersville Academy. Cynthia and Jen will test this out and sell tickets at the upcoming Snickersville Turnpike Association picnic.  At the fair, the winner of the raffle will be announced at 3:30 p.m.

Tree Dedication in Memory of Rosemary Stanger Griffin:

  • The tree dedication and tribute at the Bluemont Community Center last Sunday was a success, with 20 people in attendance.

Landscaping for Snickersville Academy:

  • Maria Nicklin has been working on creating a beautiful garden at the academy. We applied to the Virginia Department of Forestry for a grant and two representatives from the Department came to Bluemont on Arbor Day for a tour of the grounds. True to their word, they came through with a generous gift of $2500.

Snickersville Turnpike Association:

  • A bicentennial celebration to showcase restoration, along with a pot luck picnic will take place on the academy grounds on Sunday, August 24, from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors:

  • Jen arranged to have a portable bathroom delivered to the Canards and BCA will cover the cost. In addition, the Bluemont Methodist Church will pay to cut the weeds leading to their home.
  • Recently, Thomas was admitted to the hospital for observation.

Montessori School news:

  • Toby Gress was going to announce that a new classroom addition (to accommodate an increased number of students) is currently under construction at the Montessori School. Until it is fully completed, the older students will attend class on the second floor of the EE Lake Store.

Next Meeting:

  • The next meeting will be a combined BCA meeting and Fair dinner at Bluemont Station on September 10 at 6:30 p.m.
