In Attendance:

Bill Bogard, John Constant, Kim Hurst, Melissa Hess, Cynthia Morris, Jessica Nalls, Tom Rust, Peter Weeks.

Treasurer’s Report:

  • Report will be filed tomorrow.

Bluemont Fair 2026 Volunteers Needed:

  • We need a Food Chair to work with the two experienced co-chairs to sign up new food vendors (for both eating on site and carrying away), get the food safety forms in to the County, and allocate spaces for the vendors. We will help you learn the ropes!

  • We need a Juried Crafter Chair to sign up all our fabulous crafters and allocate their spaces in the field. Support and guidance will be available throughout.

  • For someone who wants to join the committee with a smaller role, we also need a chair to run the 50-50 Raffle. You will organize the volunteers (which we will help get), and manage the money collection. This is mostly a fair-weekend commitment, but you still get to join our Committee and connect with our neighbors.

    Bluemont Heritage:

    • Is in the process of amending the Articles of Incorporation.
    • Is looking into holding virtual meetings using Zoom.
    • Will plant a liberty tree at the Snickersville Academy as part of the 250th anniversary celebration.

    Neighbors Helping Neighbors:

    • As a donation from BCA, Peter presented a $400 check to Tree of Life.

    Snickersville Turnpike Association:

    • Will plant a Serviceberry tree in honor of Betty Colbert.
    • The one-lane bridge on Snickersville Turnpike (near Good Spirit Farm) was recently damaged in a car accident. Basic repairs are taking place, and as of now, there are no new changes to the structure of the bridge.

    East Wind Resort Update:

    • The Friends of Blueridge Mountains and 19 other local organizations are opposed to the preliminary submission for the project.
    • The submission has not been formalized yet. Loudoun County has a lot of questions.
    • VDOT wants to know the cost to reconfigure Route 50 in that area.
    • The developers will make a formal application (Won’t be “by right”—the Board of Supervisors will decide) and there will be a public meeting.
    • Yellow T-shirts that read “Save the Mountains” have been ordered for people to wear at Board meetings.
    • Important to note: If the developers are successful and the project is approved, this will pave the way for further development in the mountains.

    Announcements:

    • Bill and Peter are attending Loudoun 250 meetings, and in our weekly newsletter, Bill will provide information to keep people informed about the most relevant current events relating to the 250th celebration.
    • The Abigail Adams event was very well attended and was a great success.
    • The Loudoun Museum is currently running an exhibit called, “Women in the Revolution”.
    • On July 4th, bells will ring 13 times in honor of the 13 colonies.
    • Given the issue with delivery of the winter issue of the Bugle, extra copies are now available at the Post Office for anyone who did not receive one by mail.
    • Turnpike cleanup: We received a few responses to our call for volunteers to clean up the junk a contractor dumped in the hairpin turn area.  A clean up date will be scheduled soon.
    • Jessica Nalls has graciously offered to moderate our Facebook page. Thanks, Jessica!
    • Arbor Day is coming. We will receive a check for $2500 from the Department of Forestry for plants we planted last year. There will be a tree give away on Arbor Day and the Department of Forestry will be in attendance.
