In Attendance:

Treasurer’s Report:

  • Anyone who needs reimbursement, let Hillary know.
  • The copyright people have been paid.
  • A donation to support the Appalachian Trail Festival was made this week.

Bluemont Fair 2026 News:

  • All Fair Chair positions have been filled.
  • The new Craft Chair is Melissa Huxley.
  • Food Chair is Melissa Hess.
  • 50/50 Raffle Chair is Omari Faulkner.
  • The next Fair Chair meeting is next Tuesday. At the meeting, we will take a vote on the preferred art design for the fair.

Bluemont Heritage:

  • The Snickersville Academy is part of the old school houses of Northern Virginia. Last Saturday was “Old Schoolhouse Day” and there were two visitors to the academy.
  • We have identified the academy building needs a good cleaning, better lighting, and fireplace repairs.
  • As part of the celebration of Loudoun 250, bells will be run 13 times at 12:50 p.m. Would be nice to get some local children involved as bell ringers.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors:

  • This week, one of our neighbors reached out and some generous local people stepped up to help.
  • Mary Marks shared speakers from Blueridge Hospice Care are available to come to communities to share info on advanced directives. She will send Peter the information and discuss next steps, if there is interest.

Snickersville Turnpike Association:

The STA will have a display of the evolution of the American flag and will hang four separate historic versions of the America flag on the side of the E.E. Lake store.

East Wind Resort Update:

    • There are ongoing discussions of the 34 acres that fall in Loudoun County and the developers are finding out there are several challenges to fit the initial plans into the limited space.
    • The developers have not officially withdrawn their plan.

Exhibit Opening:

  • Opening May 17th at the Plaster Museum is the new exhibit, American Mosaic: E Pluribus Unum.
  • We wanted to do something different and feature the history of local people.
  • Come and check it out. You will learn a lot and have fun. 

Bear’s Den Open House:

  • An open house and a thank you celebration for those who made donations toward the renovation of the hostel building will take place on May 17 from 2 pm to 5 pm. Free food and drinks will be provided.

Spring Fling:

  • The annual Spring Fling event is scheduled for May 23 from 2 pm to 5 pm. Remember to bring your favorite dessert.

Appalachian Trail Festival:

  • Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 6 for the seventh annual celebration of the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) In Hillsboro, Virginia with three A.T. communities teaming up to host: Bluemont, Hillsboro, and Round Hill.  Join us at the Old Stone School grounds in Hillsboro (37098 Charles Town Pike) from 11 am to 5 pm.  Free admission and free parking!
