AGENDA

Call to Order at 7:00 PM: Peter Weeks, presiding

Attendance: Peter Weeks, John Sullivan, John Constant, Henry Plaster, Hailey Zurchmeide, Dave Ewald, Josephine Hughes, Tom Rust, Tim Hall, Bill Bogard, Sheri Conrad, Gail Kelly

President’s Remarks  – Peter Weeks

Movie production company contacted Peter about using Snickersville Academy to film a19th Century Cherokee legend. Three day shoot would occur Sept. 13th-15th.

Boulder Crest is providing parking and bathrooms. Production company is based out of Leesburg and an insurance certificate will be issued.  They will also make donation to Bluemont Heritage.  

Henry Plaster recently celebrated his 93rd birthday. 🥳

Bugle Summer Newsletter will come out next week with a lot of information including local businesses and personalities.

Standing Committees:   

Bluemont Fair Jen, Cynthia

      • In need of 4 seater, 4 wheeler to assist patrons needing a ride
      • Model Trains will be back this year as well as Petting Zoo, Speaker’s Event, Antiques and Flea Market, Indian Village and Ponies in Hogan’s Field

Loudoun Historic Villages Alliance Peter

        • Potluck picnic tentatively scheduled October 3rd at Snickersville Academy
        • Wifi is available through Bit Haulers at EE Lake Store
        • Educational Exhibit continues through October
        • Farmers Market is going well.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors No Update

Community Center/Parks & Rec Sheri

        • Six weeks of summer camp underway
        • Preschool begins September 1st
        • “Jammin’ On the Porch” August 27th w/ Taco Truck 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.

Snickersville Turnpike Association Henry Plaster

        • In Person Meeting in July – discussed one lane bridge on Foggy Bottom and it’s nearing completion. It will accommodate wide horse trailers.  Culverts are in.  Henry’s cows are very, very interested. 😊😊😊
        • Paperwork process ongoing (Jane Covington) for Snickersville Turnpike becoming a National Historic Site.  Not likely to have decision until March of 2022.
        • Damaged historical markers will be replaced on Snickersville Turnpike.

Old Business:

VDOT Traffic Calming / Bridge Peter

        • Foggy Bottom Bridge  – widening process has begun. Original timeframe has been extended.
        • There will be greater attempts to calm traffic and make area safer.

AT&T Tower Update Peter

        • Board of Supervisors have postponed their final decision regarding construction of a tower on the ridge line of Short Hill Mountain. Final vote will be September 14th. They are asking for citizen input. Board of supervisors can be contacted by email: bos@loudoun.gov.

New Business:

Great Country Farms, Bluemont Vineyard, Dirt Farm Brewery

        • Check websites for special events

Equine Safety              Peter 

        • Large Animal Emergency Rescue Training will be held in Leesburg at the end of August. Someone from our area will attend. More information to come.

Bluemont Heritage Picnic  Peter

        • Tentatively Oct. 3rd at Snickersville Academy.  Details to follow.
