In Attendance: Peter Weeks, Henry Plaster, Dave Ewald, Tom Rust, Kate Zurschmeide, Judy Anderson, Bill Bogard, Mary Marks, Tim Hall, John Constant, Sheri Conrad, Scott Seeberger                

Meeting Called to Order at 7:04 PM: Peter Weeks, presiding

President Remarks:

Friends of The Blue Ridge Mountains – AT&T was denied putting a tower on the mountain.  Planning commission voted 6-3 denying it. Danger of setting precedent for other towers and construction projects.  It now goes before the Loudoun Board of Supervisors.

Standing Committees   

Bluemont Fair – Cynthia Morris, Jen Stone

Fair is scheduled September 18th and 19th.

Volunteers needed for parking.  High School students can earn community volunteer credit hours.  Contact John Constant: John@atokaproperties to volunteer.

Bluemont Heritage – Peter Weeks, Kevin Hart

      • Education in Bluemont in the 19th and 20th Centuries has opened at the Plaster Museum from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Loudoun Historic Village Alliance – Peter Weeks

Loudoun Historic Village Alliance is still trying to work out solution for land in St. Louis where a developer wishes to place multiple houses endangering the water supply of local residents.  Board of Supervisors voted to sell “The Aldie Assemblage” to a local resident who plans to preserve the buildings and setting.

Community Organizations/Events

Community Center/Parks & Rec – Sheri Conrad

      • Bluemont Community Center – Floors are completed and look beautiful.  Summer camp is underway.  Classes are back to pre-covid capacity. 
      • First “Jammin’ on the Porch” in June was successful.  Next Jammin’ on the Porch is August 27th with music and food truck.

Snickersville Turnpike Association – Henry Plaster

      • Snickersville Turnpike Association – contracted with Jane Covington to make application to designate Snickersville Turnpike a national historic landmark.
    • Widening the one lane bridge on Foggy Bottom has begun in earnest and should be completed in one to two weeks.
    • New signage designating “First Agricultural Institution” will be erected on eastern section of Snickersville Turnpike 

Old Business:

    • Farmers Market – Sundays 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

New Business:

    • VDOT traffic calming – Tony Buffington’s office and VDOT asked for numbers to put in Speed Humps (stamped concrete).  Different texture tells people to slow down.  They will be installed in two places.  
    • In the event of a catastrophic event, BCA is in the process of creating an emergency plan for livestock. An upcoming course, “Large Animal 911” will be offered at the Loudoun County Fairgrounds August 28th-30th. http://loudounequine.org/large-animal-911-large-animal-emergency-rescue-training.  This course addresses stray animals on the road, evacuations due to tornados, flood, drought, wild fire, etc.
    • VDOT – approved to install enhanced safety measures approaching and leaving the intersection of Snickersville Turnpike and Foggy Bottom Road.
    • 2.5 million dollars is available via The American Rescue Act and applications are due by July 28th. Ideas of how this money can help the Bluemont Community?

Henway Hard Cider Company Special Events for Neighbors in Bluemont

    • Saturday, July 10th: Margaritaville feat Tropical Attitudes 

They will be playing laid-back beachy tunes pondside from 1 pm to 5 pm. We are extending the Zurschmeide Family Discount on this event to anyone with a Bluemont address using the Promo code ZIP20135.

    • Sunday, July 11th: Paws for a Cause

We are so excited to welcome the Canines-N-Kids Foundation on Sunday – their mission being to crush cancer at both ends of the leash. Tickets for this event include a tasting around the pond and 50% of the ticket proceeds are donated back to the foundation.
